Mike Coates arrived in Bergen on Friday afternoon after motoring over the North Sea in thick fog. He departed Whitby late Tuesday.

Marina Proposal Comments
There will shortly be a facility on the club website for comment questions and opinions about the new marina proposals.
All members will receive a password to acces this part of the site so we can do our washing in private.
This area will also contain an abridged version of the monthy Executive Committee Minutes, abridged for no other reason than the editor as more to do than write about the warts & all.

Proposed Marina Improvements
The new proposed marina improvement is now at a well advanced planning stage. Whitby Yacht Club currently has an involvement via the Stakeholders working party with myself, Mike Coates and Harry Sissling being members of this working group.
The new proposals have now been published in the Whitby Gazette and information from the three working party meetings has been reported in the Executive Committee Minutes of the Club. The new proposals are as follows:
Additional moorings together with the upgrading of the existing ones.
Improved access from the shore to the mooring pontoons.
Improved car parking facilities.
Environmental improvements in the form of footpaths and landscaping.
A water resources centre in the form of a two story building incorporating toilets, showers etc with the possibilities of training, meeting and workshop facilities.
A public consultation exhibition is arranged to take place from July 15th to 31st in the Tourist Information Centre followed by the next Stakeholders working group meeting on August 1st to consider the outcome of the consultation exercise.
You all know the club has for several years had ideas to move our activities onto a marina based site. Indeed at one time the Club did receive an offer from Scarborough Borough Council for a leased area of land on the marina for construction of a new Clubhouse. However when asked if the offer still stands at the last meeting on 17th May SBC stated the offer no longer exists.
If the new proposals go ahead the only way WYC could have a presence on the marina would be via the water resources centre building.
We as your clubs’ representatives need to know the members feelings on our involvement in this proposed venture. We need input before the next Stakeholders Meeting on August 1st. Please consider all our options carefully, the future of WYC may depend on our involvement.
I would appreciate a good response, it is probable you would visit the Exhibition first if so do it early as we have the meeting the day after it closes.
We all have an interest in these proposals, as Whitby Yacht Club Members and marina berth holders present and future you need to make your feelings heard or forever hold your peace.
