Mark Turton

'Peggy Turton has advised me that she wishes to scatter Mark's Ashes in the vicinity of 'S' Mark at 1600hrs on Sunday 31st August 2008 from Yacht Teemane. Peggy would welcome friends & Club Members to join with her and her family on Sunday to assist with the scattering of the ashes.

Weather permitting, it is intended to depart from the Marina pontoon to use the 1530hrs Bridge on Sunday. Peggy would like to see as many boats as possible to attend on the day, and hopes that Yachts will dress overall in rememberance of Mark.

Peggy has asked for no flowers and dress is informal.

Additional extra bridge openings have been arranged for 1300hrs on
each Saturday and Sunday during August and also on bank holiday Monday the 25th

Further Adventures of Roy & Anne

Howdy Folks Our last news saw us in Zion Canyon,we then moved to Bryce Canyon a wonderland of hoodoos and spires and weird rock formations - it was so very different from anything we have ever seen before. We wallked quite a bit there - always down first into the canyon and then the hard slog up!!! From here we went to Capitol Reef, a little known place but exceptional and equal to Zion and Bryce in its own way. We stopped in a place called Fruita which used to be a Mormon settlement. It was so peaceful set in a lovely valley full of orchards - plum, peach, cherry, apple and pear - none of which were ripe when we were there!We are hoping to return that way to sample some of the free fruit !!We arrived next in Flaming Gorge, still in Utah, a huge watersports area but not a single yacht in sight !!We moved to Wyoming and had a memorable time at the 49th Eastern Shoshone PowWow. A 3 day event including Indian Rodeo and traditional dancing. Hundreds of Native Americans in wonderful traditional regalia dancing in competitions for prize money.We then went to Cody to spend 4 days over the 4th July enjoying their annual Cody Stampede. We went to the Rodeo on the 4th and then on the 5th we went back to watch Xtreme Bulls - 40 of the top bull riders vs 40 of the rankest bulls - AWESOME !!During the days there was a parade and live free music in the open air park. Roy was in seventh heaven with all the country music !Our next destination was Yellowstone National Park where we spent 2 weeks moving throughout the park and staying at 4 different sites. We walked, saw hundreds of Bison, herds of Elk, Wolves and their young, Coyotes, Mule and Pronghorn Deer,Beaver, Geysers, Fumeroles (steam vents), mud pots, Black Bear and cubs.We did a trail called Snow Pass and while walking through the forest part Roy suddenly said " there's a bear" and all my prayers were answered - I have always wanted to see a Grizzly of my own - not on the road with loads of cars around. It was so special, I would have stayed but Roy being the good person and protecting me - I hope - called out so the bear would hear, he was not in any rush to leave the area and at one time I thought he was going to come towards us but he finally went off into the forest. It was difficult to get a photo but I just watched him, so majestic - then Roy made us move along the trail and it was over. Half an hour later he says "stop where you are" and there on the path just at the side of him is a rattlesnake or so we think. Well it rattled, reared its head up as if to strike then backed off - it had zig zag markings and they are in the park. Bear was AWESOME - Snake was NOT !!!!The winter here was late this year, they had snow in June but to our advantage as the wildflowers have been spectacular and some Rangers say there are flowers they have never seen before, it has also meant that the rivers, creeks and waterfalls are still sending melt water down so again are stunning to see.Finally we moved to Grand Teton National Park - 80 miles south. These mountains are my most favourite apart from the Matterhorn. Imagine a whole row of Matterhorns rising from a plain. They were excellent for walking in, we spent 8 days here and saw the elusive Moose, which we had not seen in Yellowstone.We are now in Montana in Bozeman before heading towards Seattle. We have enjoyed ourselves so much we have decided to put the car and trailer in store in Las Vegas in October and return here next March till June then back again August till November. So crew available June and July 09 !!! We keep in touch with the racing on website, hope the weather keeps improving for you all.We were so very sad to hear about Peter Turner, a kind, helpful, wonderful gentleman who will be greatly missed. Please pass on our condolences to his family. Safe and successful sailing to all, have a good Commodores Day.
